COVID 19 message from the Administrator

Posted on: 24 April 2020

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Islam,

We are all aware of the Global spread of Covid-19 virus and New York heralded as the epicenter of the United States. The rapid spread of the virus in our city, has caused us to think of things that we took for granted and rethink how we go about with basic things in our lives. As a result of the escalating morbidity and mortality caused by the rapid spread of the virus amongst us, the very difficult decision to close the mosque was made giving up our religious practices, educational classes and community building programs.

During this period, I have received numerous emails and questions asking about our congregational prayers and other community programs within our mosque. The US President and the Governor of New York has mandated that all public buildings be closed or remain operational with only essential staff and follow guidelines of social distancing and wearing of gloves and masks. The Muslim League of organizations also requested that we follow all laws in helping to keep the virus from spreading.

In the light of these guidelines, Masjid Al-Ansar, Inc., is following regulations to keep us all safe by closing the mosque until we receive further notice that it is safe for public congregation. This decision is hard for all of us.

The Noble month of Ramadan is approximately two weeks away, and it saddens my heart to say that we may not be able to congregate to break our fast, pray the five daily prayers or Taraweeh during this crisis. We are following closely with State, Federal, Muslim Leagues Association and as soon as the situation resolves, we will notify all our brothers and sisters.

The Administration of Masjid Al-Ansar, Inc. deeply regrets the decision to close the mosque, but it is to keep us protected. Let us all stay safe that we can keep each other safe. Please follow the guidelines for staying safe by the CDC by maintaining social distance, washing our hands, cough into our elbows and wearing mask and gloves if you are leaving home.

Let us keep each other in our prayers and our hearts united in brotherhood and sisterhood.

Your brother in Islam,

Rafeek Munusami ( Administrator)
